Taa' Pi't is a Mayan-founded, Tz'utujil-led nonprofit weaving together
after-school educational programs for children, mothers, and the wider community of San Pedro La Luguna, on the shores of Lago Atitlan, Guatemala.

Since we opened our doors in 2006, we've had the privilege of walking alongside more than 3,000 children and their families, and 1,000 adults, including teachers, community leaders, local groups, and towns around the lake.

Our mission is to inspire the people of Lake Atitlán to live in balance with nature and know that the health of each individual and the community is dependent upon on the health of the lake, the soil, and the seeds. Our programs focus on agriculture and nutrition, care for Mother Lake and Mother Earth, and Mayan cultural values.

the heart of taa' Pi'T

TAA' PI'T is comprised of a dedicated group of individuals, on the ground in San Pedro La Luguna and around the world, who carry out the mission in sacred duty to Mother Lake Atitilan and her children. While our educational programs are designed for children ages 4 -11 and their families, we also participate in community and municipal initiatives that support the health of our community.

The work Taa' Pi't  is doing in education has made a real difference; it has fostered meaningful learning and helped unlock the students' potential. It has also played a key role in integrating lake conservation into our local curriculum. The changes needed to save our heavily polluted lake will come from this generation, carrying what they learn to their families and the wider community. Their nutrition work matters too: many children arrive at school having had only bread and coffee, which hinders learning.
